Largest stock exchange operators worldwide as of December 2023, by market capitalization of listed companies.
The Largest Stock Exchange in the World
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is the largest stock exchange in the world, with an equity market capitalization of over 25 trillion U.S. dollars as of December 2023. The following three exchanges were the NASDAQ, the Euronext, and the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
As this chart shows the largest exchanges in the world, by far, are the NYSE and NASDAQ which leads to many foreign companies wanting to list on these exchanges. This is a very good thing for our exchanges and for countries working together to achieve common economic goals.
Exchanges and Regulators Should Adhere to the U.S. Security Laws
However, I feel that our exchanges and regulators have to make sure that these issuers and their investors adhere to the U.S. Security Laws and that they must monitor and have a right to monitor these activities in their foreign countries.
It is my belief that these foreign issuers and shareholders must adhere to our securities laws in exactly the same manner as any US issuer.
Issuers from countries that make that difficult or even impossible should not be allowed to join our exchanges.
Foreign shareholders and investors in these issuers must also follow US Security Laws and our exchanges and regulators need the tools and authority to do so in those foreign countries before allowing a foreign issuer to apply for listing.
